Thoughts equal Math
Thoughts equal math; no drama from your mama or anyone else…
What if our thoughts only create an emotional response because of the meaning we make of those thoughts….those stories we tell ourselves?
I once heard someone say that in the absence of spoken or written truth, a story is created to fill the gap. I am totally all about bedtime stories, but let’s be serious: we don’t benefit from most of the stories we tell ourselves.
So let’s break this down….math is something that we cannot agree to disagree on, right? Math is factual information with no real room for interpretation…
So, what if our thoughts were comprised of facts, not the stories we tell ourselves?
You woke up late.
Does that mean that you are irresponsible, inadequate, not worthy of a promotion or a horrible example for your child/children…..nope, it means you’re going to have to hustle probably, and you should consider an alarm clock…because
Math.
We do this with so many things. The meaning we make of situations becomes this giant monstrosity of emotional turmoil, and sometimes there’s not even any truth behind it. Talk about an overactive imagination.
We regress into some version of our toddler/early elementary-aged self and glorify all of the “what ifs” until we are paralyzed.
Analysis paralysis…yup, that’s a real thing.
How do we deal with that? I want to tell you it’s easy, but it’s not…not in the beginning. Our thoughts are those toddlers with knives that are so excited about the bright and shiny object, they have no idea the danger they are potentially in.
